I announced the winners of the Clever Blogging T-shirt Contest last week, so it’s about time I got you some real t-shirts, right? I’ve started with the winners, and will be creating shirts from some of our other favorites, too, so if you’re dying to get a t-shirt with one of the slogans that didn’t place, tell me which one in the comments. I’m also willing to do some limited color/font variations if desired.
1oz margarine 1/2 cup sugar 1/4 cup brown sugar (not packed) 2 tablespoons apple sauce, unsweetened 1 egg white 1 teaspoon vanilla 1 1/4 cup flour 1/2 teaspoon baking soda 1/4 teaspoon salt 1/3 cup mini chocolate chips
Combine flour, baking soda and salt in small bowl. Beat margarine, granulated sugar, brown sugar in large mixer bowl. Add egg white, vanilla and applesauce. Gradually beat in flour mixture. Fold in mini chips. Scoop into 25 balls and flatten slightly onto parchment paper. Bake at 350 for 8-10 minutes
Yields 25 cookies. Per serving 1.5 grams of fat - 62 calories (alli snack = 2 cookies)
Apparently, for me, camping is to be avoided at all costs. Unfortunately, I love camping and refuse to avoid it.
There have been three “very bad” weekends this summer, meaning significant and uncharacteristic weight gain. All three have been camping weekends.
All three weekends have involved significant exercise of the biking persuasion, and I try to plan for good eating, but it just doesn’t happen. I bring healthful snacks but end up stuffing myself silly on roasted marshmallows (one of the great joys in life!). Cravings go out of control and I eat anything crunchy/salty/sweet I can get my mitts on.
I always hope that I’ll have lost weight or at least maintained due to the exercise, but so far, that’s not what’s happened. I end up about five pounds up, several of which fall away (probably because of all the salty foods and sporadic hydration), but it takes me the better part of a week each time to get back on track.
How do you think I should handle this? Should I get stricter with myself and beg Daniel (in advance!) to limit me to just four marshmallows and keep me from all snacky foods offered by others? Or should I just quit whining, enjoy the weekend, and plan on the “recovery” week?
Announcing the winners of the Clever Blogging T-Shirt contest
With all the awesome slogans that were submitted, we had a tough time narrowing them down to just 7 winners (plus the peoples’ choice “Most Creative” winner). We considered, contemplated, and deliberated, and finally used our super-secret algorithm to select the very best (okay, not really; we took a vote).
Without further ado, here are the winners:
First prize: “Bloggers do it for the comments.” by Patrick Lee (we also loved “I blog, therefore I am… desperate for comments!” but can’t have Patrick looking like a prize-hog
Patrick will receive his choice of $100 USD cash or a year’s hosting at MediaLayer (the AppLayer DX plan) and a two-year domain name registration. (Provided by Blogging Expertise.)
Most Creative: “I came, I saw, I blogged” by Rajaram S (who seems to have a lot of Orkut friends, if I’m interpreting the stats correctly).
Rajaram will receive a copy of the excellent Color Schemer Studio. (Provided by ColorSchemer.)
Business Blogger: “Blogging is the new … (read more)” by Lucy (this was actually our top pick, but Lucy really wanted this prize, and we’re not going to deny her the one she really wants!).
Lucy will receive 2 hours of consulting time with Ian Lurie of Portent Interactive. (Provided by Ian Lurie/Portent Interactive.)
Watch for the t-shirts, coming soon to Spreadshirt!
Social media websites such as Digg, Netscape, Reddit, Del.icio.us, and Stumble Upon send thousands of visitors to blogs and websites everyday. I’m sure you’ve seen plenty of articles about becoming a top user of these sites to build your traffic. While they are all tremendous sources of traffic, getting a significant number of visitors from these sites can take a lot of effort—especially with Digg, Netscape, and Reddit.
If you’ve avoided social media marketing because you don’t have hours every day to spend submitting articles and voting on those submitted by other users, you are missing out on countless potential visitors.
For the average user the main problem with the most popular social media sites is that it can be difficult to generate any kind of traffic to your site. Most of us are completely overlooking the opportunity to benefit from 2nd tier social media sites that send decent levels of traffic and can make it easier for the time-starved blogger to succeed.
Literally hundreds of lesser-known social media sites exist that present far less competition for the top spots. Yes, they will send less traffic than Digg, but if you choose the right ones to use you can see substantial results. (more…)
Vote for the most creative blogging t-shirt slogan
You people are creative monsters! We got a crazy number of entries for the Clever Blogging T-Shirt contest and will probably spend the next week or so just whittling them down.
Some entries were brilliant, some were confounding, and some just made me groan… but now’s your chance to help select one of the winners. The results of this poll will determine who gets the Color Schemer Studio prize (provided by ColorSchemer).
Here’s the way this one works: read through this (very long) list and check the slogans you would buy/wear (don’t worry, it’s anonymous and there will be no auto-shipments
). Please vote only once (this isn’t a popularity contest; we just want to create t-shirts people like!). The winner of the prize will be the person who submitted the most-voted-for slogan (barring any cheating).
Several slogans were submitted more than once. In the event that one of these is the most voted for, I’ll throw in a second copy of Color Schemer Studio so that both submitters receive the prize.
In the cases where the submission included a line break, we’ve indicated this with ” / “. There were a few entries we just couldn’t get into our poll software, but they will still be eligible for the other prizes.
Voting will be open through Sunday, July 22 (not sure what timezone; it’s determined by Twiigs).
Please note! Not all entries would fit in one poll. Please vote in ALL THREE (!) polls below.
